Mona Lisa is a well-known work of art by the famous painter Leonardo Da Vinci. This oil painting has been subjected into much scrutiny, study and parody due to Mona Lisa’s enigmatic expression.
Over the years, there have been a lot of speculations about this painting. These speculations rose as people become more and more aware about the mysterious discoveries regarding the Mona Lisa. Some of the discoveries include the lack of facial hair such as the eyebrows and the Mona Lisa smile. These discoveries caused the growing number of interpretations as well as speculations about the portrait.
Some interpreted the lack of facial hair on the Mona Lisa as Leonardo’s aim for perfection. They think of it that way because they regarded Leonardo as a perfectionist and it could be that he was not able to create a perfect eyebrow for his masterpiece. Others claimed that it was a common practice at that time for women to pluck all their eyebrows because it was considered unsightly. With regard to the famous smile, they interpreted it as a tribute to Leonardo’s attraction to his mother. Other people stated that the Mona Lisa painting could be Leonardo’s reflection if he was a woman, especially since he was believed to be a homosexual.
No matter how many speculations other people might have towards the Mona Lisa, Leonardo Da Vinci is the only person who could give out the exact answer why he created the Mona Lisa that way and what inspired him to do it. Besides, Mona Lisa will surely keep everything a secret, as can be seen in her smile.
