Should you use AdSense?
Google’s AdSense system has allowed webmasters access to an all new revenue stream that has allowed them to earn money every time someone clicks an advert on their website. There are a number of different chains of thought that apply to AdSense, and not everyone thinks that it is a good idea to add it to a website.
Certain websites are ideally suited for the addition of advertising using AdSense. If a site has plenty of high quality content on a particular subject, but doesn’t actually sell any products themselves, then having AdSense blocks on the page can provide a way to monetize that content and get benefits from it.
On content websites, the user can really benefit from the presence of advertising that will allow them to learn more about the information on the site, and even to buy products that are mentioned within the content. Under circumstances like that, the AdSense acts as a sponsored links section, providing a resource for users.
Using AdSense on commercial websites is a slightly greyer area. If you run a website that is in a competitive market, your cost of acquiring visitors can be relatively high – the time spent on building content, links, and even advertising soon add up. The argument in favour of using Adsense on a site is that it is a way of ensuring some revenue from all customers, however, if a prospect who would have bought a product from you leaves the website using an advertised link that pays you a couple of cents, when they may have bought an item with a margin of several dollars, the use of AdSense becomes a bad idea.
The best way of deciding whether having Adsense on your website is to experiment with it to find out how much you earn. If you have a commercial website that earns you $50 per day without Adsense, and then by adding the adverts this goes up to $60 per day, then having Adsense is a good idea. If the daily revenue goes down to $40, then it is a bad idea to have Adsense.
