Heading off to College?
Its that time of year again when high school students all over the world have to face their final exams and then make their plans for college, but in this era of high tuition fees, and vast student debt, increasing numbers of kids are asking whether it still makes economic sense to go to college now, or whether it is better to save up for a few years, and then face their college years with more idea of what they want to do.
The fact is that by going to college, a person can massively enhance their prospects of enjoying a higher income, and a better job, but if that comes at a price of paying back a quarter of your salary for five in order to pay back your student debt, does it still make sense to go for it straight away.
The main reason why people would go straight to a college from high school rather than waiting is that quite often, simply by waiting, you get into a habit of waiting for years, and years, and eventually realise that by having a family you are now too tied down to study, or you are in a position where you have a mortgage, and commitments that you are unwilling or unable to shed in order to spend 3 years getting more qualifications.
The years that you spend in college are amongst the best of your life, that much is true, the first taste of freedom, being away from your parents for the first time is fantastic when you are young, and the college life gives you a chance to get to know who you truly are.
At college you will make friends that will last a lifetime, and be able to learn throughout the time you are there many important life lessons as well as the actual courses that you take.
Sure it is appealing to leave college for a few years in order to avoid the massive debt burden, but providing that you are prudent with your cash, and perhaps get a job to supplement your income at college, there is no reason why you should finish in too much debt to be unable to enjoy your new life, and you will generally be able to enjoy working in a much better paid job than you would have got otherwise, so don’t hold back, go straight to college, and start living.
