Drinking enough water

Since around 70% of your body is made up of water, it is pretty obvious that we need to get plenty of it every day in order to keep our body as healthy as possible. We actually need to drink about two liters of water every day in order to allow our bodies to function properly, but very few of us actually get enough water in our diets.

The body needs water for all kinds of reasons, to help us to keep cool through sweat, to help maintain our blood volume, and to help maintain the health of our cells. We need water to help us digest our food, and we need water in order to clean toxins out of our body.

We can live for around two weeks without eating any food, but within two days without water, we will die. Without water to help remove the toxins from our body, toxic chemicals that are the byproduct of various physical processes can build up in our kidneys and cause them to fail, without our kidneys, the rest of our body quickly poisons itself, and we die of multiple organ failure.

Getting enough water will keep our skin healthy, help to keep us more alert, and allow our body to work efficiently at all the processes that it must carry out to keep us alive. The recommended two liters of water a day is around eight glasses, and simply by drinking with meals and regular top ups, we can maintain our health by getting the right amount.

The best way of making sure we are getting enough water in our diet is to check the color of our urine. To be healthy it should be a very light yellow color, almost like water. Many of us do not realize that the color of our urine is one of the best indicators of how healthy we are being with our intake of food and drink.
