Wishing on a shooting star

It was a dark starry night and when you gazed on the sky, a sudden trace of light caught your eye. It was then that you realized that it was a shooting star! You immediately mumbled your wishes, hoping that it will come true. Even if you are not sure whether your wish will be granted or not, you are still hoping at the back of your mind that your wish came in time before the shooting star reached the ground.

Wishing upon a shooting star has been a practice by several people even if we are all aware that these shooting stars are actually meteoroids. Meteoroids might be as small as sands or as large as boulders particles found in the Solar system. When these particles enter Earth’s territory, it is now called meteors and it forms a visible path when it cross the sky. The path that we see when meteoroids enter Earth’s atmosphere is what we refer to as shooting star or falling star. But in the field of astronomy, this is called a meteor shower.

There is no solid evidence where the practice of wishing on shooting stars came from. Some said that shooting stars are like a symbol of hope. Others associate stars to divine powers and so when they see shooting stars, it is like seeing an angel. There is no concrete explanation where the practice of wishing on shooting stars came from.

Nevertheless, shooting stars are very rare but beautiful to see. So whether or not your wishes could come true when you see a shooting star, be thankful that in your lifetime, you were able to see one.
